Hello UEC Members!
Welcome back to another year with the Utah Engineers Council! My name is Caite Beck, and I am excited to work with all of you this upcoming year as your Chair.
A little bit about myself: I am originally from Houston, TX, and moved to Illinois to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for my undergraduate education. After receiving my BS in Aerospace Engineering, I moved to Ogden, UT, where I worked at Northrop Grumman in Promontory for five-and-a-half years. During that time, I received my MSE in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering from Purdue University. In February, my husband and I moved to Salt Lake City after I took a job as a Systems Engineer with L3Harris. I am also working on my MBA from Indiana University and expect to graduate in November. In my free time, I mostly find myself running, and I am currently training for the New York City Marathon in November.
Involvement in professional societies is important to me, and I am thrilled to learn more about each of your respective societies during my tenure as Chair. I have previously served in most positions within the Utah Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, including Chair in 2020-2021. I aim to leverage this experience to better serve the member societies within the UEC over the coming year.
We have a lot of exciting things coming up this year. First, we will implement quarterly networking events beginning with a social at Squatters Brewpub in downtown Salt Lake City on Thursday, October 20. You can find more information on this event, including sign-up information, in this newsletter. Additionally, I will be reaching out to the Chairs of each society so that I may attend one of your monthly meetings over the course of the year to gain better insight into the operations of each of your organizations. And we cannot forget the annual UEC awards banquet in conjunction with E-Week in February. We have already begun planning this exciting event, and I look forward to seeing it come together.
I encourage you to reach out if you have ways in which the UEC can better serve you, your organization, and the Utah engineering community. My “virtual door” is always open; you can reach me at cbeck0604@gmail.com.
Please go to our website for information about scholarship applications for 2023. They are posted here: https://utahengineerscouncil.org/scholarships/.
Looking forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Caite Beck
