BENNETT, UEC VICE CHA I R 2005-2006 UEC V I CE CHA I R ’ S MESSAGE ▲ As we approach our 45 th Annual Utah Engineers Council (UEC) Awards Banquet February 23, 2006, I’m excited to participate in presenting theUtah Engineer of the Year, Engineering Educator of the Year and Fresh Faces of Engineering Awards. The UEC was organized over 55 years ago (1951). I recall the first time I attended a UEC Board Meeting, I asked the question to myself, “Why do we have this organization when there are so many engi- neering related organizations?” It didn’t take me long to catch the vision of really how important this organization is to Utah. Hopefully, most of you that are reading this article have vis- ited the official UEC website (www.utahengineerscouncil.org) . If you haven’t, I would like to challenge each of you to do this. As stated in the UEC website home page, the UEC is an umbrella of 15 different local chapters and sections of engineering and en- gineering related societies. Because of this, I believe it is one of the best ways to communicate between all of these professionals, as well as those who associate with them. The Annual UEC Jour- nal will be mailed to over 5,000 professionals and others that are members of each of these societies. The Governor’s Office of Eco- nomic Development has recently become an affiliate member of this organization. I believe their membership in this organization will help improve communications with engineers and the Governor’s Office. I encourage each of you to read each of the articles prepared by the member organizations. The UEC will be awarding scholarships ($1,000 each) this year to three outstanding engineering students from the major Universities. On behalf of the UEC, I would like to express my appreciation for those organizations and members of those organi- zations who participate in this organization and for their generous donations to the UEC. Without each of you, this organization wouldn’t survive. I would like to encourage you to donate again this year and hope to see you at the banquet. ■ Utah Engineers Council would like to acknowledge the generosity of industry, engineering firms, and individuals who contributed to our 2006 fund raising effort.
