www.utahengineerscouncil.org 10 Paul Summers, MWH Americas, Inc. THE 2006 ENGINEER OF THE YEAR WAS PAUL SUMMERS. Paul was nomi- nated by theAmericanCouncil of Engineer- ing Companies of Utah. Paul received his Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Utah in 1975. Paul began his career with the Utah Depart- ment of Transportation and Utah Division of Water Resources. While at the Division of Water Resources he was instrumental in implementing several water development programs. He spent his last 5 years as the Assistant Director for Water Resource Planning. Many of the tools that were established at this time are still in use to plan for Utah’s growth and increasing water needs. Upon retiring from the State of Utah, Paul joined the engineering firm of JP Montgomery, now Montgomery,Watson, Harza. He has managed several water projects for Central UtahWater Conservancy District that are critical to the future of the State of Utah and its water resources including the complex Utah Lake Basin Water Delivery System Studies and Environmental Impact Statement. Paul won the 2005 Intermountain Contractor Best of 2005 Award – Infrastructure planning project for the Utah lake system com- ponent of the Central Utah Water Project and the 2005 MWH Project Delivery Award. Paul is licensed in Utah and North Dakota. 2006 Engineer of the Year 2006 Engineering Educator of the Year Dr. Christine Hailey, Utah State University THE 2006 EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR WAS DR. CHRISTINE HAILEY. Dr. Hailey was nominated by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astro- nautics. Dr. Hailey graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State Uni- versity in 1977 a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Uni- versity of Oklahoma in 1981 and a Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1985. Following completion of her PH. D. she worked for Sandia National Laboratories. In 1994 she began her teaching career at Utah State University. In 2001 she left USU to become the Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Tyler. In 2003 she returned to USU where she is currently the Associate Dean in the College of Engineering at Utah State University. At USU, she is currently involved in three educational research projects funded by the National Science Foundation. She is the principal Investigator of the National Center of Engineering and Technology Education which has a goal to infuse engineering design and problem solving into the K-12 grades. She is actively involved in advancing engineering education at USU. She has been recognized 5 times as teacher of the year, both at USU and at the University of Texas at Tyler. Paul C.
