UTAH ENGINEERS COUNCIL JOURNAL 11 Steve Maughn, FMC Technologies THE FRESHFACESOF ENGINEERING WINNER WAS STEVE MAUGHAN. Steve was nominated by The American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Steve received his Bachelors in Science in Me- chanical Engineering Technology from Weber State University in 2001. Steve works for FMC technologies. Steve began his career as a design engineer. He quickly advanced to lead engineer where he is responsible for complete system design. He has also added the role of HVAC engineering management to his responsibilities. In his current role he manages a team of 6 individuals. His area of focus is complete HVAC system design for ground cooling of aircraft. He has also been the project engineer on several key projects. Steve and his engineering team were awarded the Spirit of Excellence Award. This is an internal award in FMC technologies which recognizes excellence in product design. It is awarded to the top design within the entire corporation during a calendar year. 2006 Fresh Faces of Engineering Award 2006 MESA Teacher of the the Year Malamene Puni Wong, Eisenhower Junior High School THE 2006 MESA TEACHER OF THE YEAR WAS MALAMENE PUNI WONG. Mr. Wong, born in Western Sa- moa, attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Hawaii. He earned a degree in math and education as he loved to teach mathematics and science to young people . He taught at the Church College of West- ern Samoa, and received an award for the Outstanding Teacher of the Year during his three-year tenure. After arriving in Utah in 1981, he accepted a teaching position at the Eisenhower Junior High School. In 1993, he become the MESA Math teacher and the MESA Club advisor at the school. Mr. Wong also teaches mathematics at the Salt Lake City Community College (SLCC) since 1995, and was awarded the Teaching Excellence award in 1998.
