Last year, the number of schools that participated in Utah in- creased from the year before by nearly 40%. This was the second highest percentage increase throughout the country. The number of schools by which Utah’s participation increased was 3rd highest in the nation. In Utah, sponsors can provide the awards the students receive at the competitions, provide lodging and travel expenses for students and coaches, and provide stability for the future of Utah MATH- COUNTS. Sponsors receive recognition on our local website (www. uspeonline.com/mathcounts/home.htm ) as well as at competitions and at the annual Utah MATHCOUNTS awards banquet. State and local sponsors of $1,000 or more receive national recognition through the Spring newsletter of MATHCOUNTS received by hundreds of sponsors, MATHCOUNTS alumni, and schools. State court records are public information and can be easily searched. If your client has a litigious reputation, find out before you become the next defendant. Despite the best of efforts, sometimes things go wrong on a project. Waiting until that unfortunate circumstance is too late to begin figuring out who your dispute is with and your chances for a successive resolution. Who your client is will create or limit your options in dealing with a dispute. For example, it is pointless to spend a great amount of money in litigating against a business entity that has no assets. By understanding your client before en- tering into a contract, you can craft the agreement to specifically address the situation and potential concerns should a dispute arise with that client.
