13 CONGRATULATIONS Nominees for UEC’s 2014 Engineering Educator of the Year Award DR. JOHN ARMSTRONG Nominee of AIAA Dr. Armstrong is an associate professor of physics at Weber State University specializ- ing in computational physics and astrophys- ics. He is responsible for developing Weber State University’s AIAA Student Branch, and earned the AIAA Faculty Mentor of the Year Award in 2013. DR. HENG BAN Nominee of ASME Dr. Ban teaches Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Utah State University. He es- tablished a research enterprise on thermo- physical properties for nuclear materials and on measurement technologies for extreme conditions and for micro- and nano-scale characterizations with lab infrastructure, people, and sustained funding. S. JEFF COLD Nominee of IEEE Professor Cold is a tenured Associate Professor of Information Technology at Utah Valley University (UVU) in the Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) Department. REID EWING, PH.D. Nominee of ITE Dr. Ewing is a professor of City and Metro- politan Planning at the University of Utah. He has also held positions as Dean, Full Professor, Associate Professor, Adjunct, and more. He is Director of the Metropolitan Re- search Center and Director of the Doctoral Program in Metropolitan Planning, Policy, and Design. DR. CYNTHIA FURSE Nominee of SWE Dr. Furse teaches in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah. She has had major teaching contributions via the “Flipped Classroom.” JOHN D. RICE, PH.D., P.E., G.E. Nominee of ASCE Dr. Rice is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering – Geotech- nical Program at Utah State University. His research tackles some of the most pressing issues facing the variability and assessment of levees and barrier walls, with the objec- tive of developing practical methodologies that can be readily used by practitioners. DR. TADD TREVOR TRUSCOTT Nominee of SAME Dr. Truscott is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Brigham Young University. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah in 2003 and his Ph.D from MIT in 2009.
