14 CONGRATULATIONS Nominees for UEC’s 2014 Fresh Face in Engineering Award TRAVIS BRACKUS Nominee of SEAU Travis earned his M.S. in Civil Engineering, B.S. in Civil Engineering from USU. While in school, he conducted structural testing re- search, performed finite-element modeling, and wrote a technical thesis as a degree fulfillment. J. ROMAN BUYS Nominee of ASHRAE Roman graduated from the University of Utah’s prestigious College of Engineering in 2009, and at that point chose to continue his employment at Van Boerum & Frank Associates where he was promoted from Intern to Mechanical Engineer. TONY CARVER Nominee of ASPE Tony earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engi- neering from the University of Utah in 2009. He is a talented and dedicated mechani- cal engineer with a record of success and has worked on many high-profile projects throughout Utah. ALEX DRAKE Nominee of ASCE Alex graduated with a degree in civil/ environmental engineering. He has been active in the Young Member Forum of the Utah chapter of ASCE for quite some time now and recently was nominated to be the secretary. MICHAEL GUYMON Nominee of EWB Mike is a water resources engineer-in-train- ing at URS in their Salt Lake City Offices. He works heavily with their water quality projects. STEVEN LORD Nominee of ITE Steven is from England and holds a vo- cational degree in Industrial Engineering from Darlington School of Technology in the UK as well as a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from BYU. Steven’s early career consisted of construction surveying in Wasatch and Utah Counties including a major highway widening project in Provo Canyon. 1ST LT. JOSE E. MARTINEZ Nominee of SAME Lt. Martinez earned a B.S. in Mechanical En- gineering from the University of Oklahoma and serves in the United States Air Force. He is the current officer in charge of expe- ditionary engineering at Hill AFB, UT, and manages the $64M F-35 mission support infrastructure program. MICHAEL MYERS Nominee of ASME Michael is a Mechanical Engineer at Motion Control where he helps develop innovative prosthetic devices which are helping people globally. ROHIT NAIR Nominee of IEEE Rohit has experience as part of a team as- signed to investigate business opportunities in renewable energy (solar), and has led ef- forts to develop guidelines to perform com- puter modeling/analysis for interconnection of distributed generation on PacifiCorp’s distribution system. ALEX J. VAX Nominee of ACEC Alex started his engineering career right out of high school by participating in an intern- ship program with the Bureau of Reclama- tion in Salt Lake City. Alex has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in civil engineering and has worked for Franson Civil Engineers for the past six years.
