15 Congratulations to UEC’s 2014 Winners! K imberley Robinson is the Chief Engineer for Star Seismic, supervising their engineering depart- ment. During her time with Star Seismic she has been involved with hundreds of structural projects, including hospitals, high rise structures, and complicated industrial projects. Prior to working with Star Seismic Kimberley was the Northwest Regional Engineer for the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), where she served as a resource to the engineering community, providing design guidance and responding to steel related engineering questions. She has also worked as a consulting engineer and as a steel project management engineer. Notable local projects that Kim has worked on are the Gateway District Blocks A and C, the Maverick Center and Rice-Eccles Stadium. Kimberley graduated first in her Civil Engineering class from the University of Utah in 1995, where she received the prestigious “Graduating Senior Student Leadership Award.” Kimberley has written multiple articles for engineering publica- tions, such as Structure Magazine and Structural Engineer Magazine, having also been on the cover of Modern Steel Construction. She was a contributor to both the 1st and 2nd Editions of the AISC Seismic Manual. She is a highly sought after speaker for state, national, and international conferences and webcasts. Kimberley has also served on the SEAU Board for two years as the Secretary / Treasurer and as a member of the SEAU Seismic Com- mittee. Kim has been active in exposing engineering to elementary, middle, and high school students, giving presentations and holding competitions, such as bridge building, egg drop, and catapult con- tests. She currently serves on the Industrial Advisory Board for the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Utah. D r. Furse is a professor in the Electrical Engineer- ing Department at the University of Utah and currently Associate Vice President for Research. Her many accomplishments as a successful researcher and educator are numerous. She is a Fellow in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has been a member since 1984. She has been the recipient of multiple awards for research and teaching grants and as an affective teacher. She has had extensive experience through lectures and the classroom at the University of Utah, including teach- ing the ‘flipped’ method of teaching using pre-viewed videos, before it had a name. She has been a member of the Executive Council of the Greater Salt Lake Section of SWE for many years. She is the current SWE Outreach Chair for the GSL-SWE Section influencing her students in significant ways. She has her name on over 150 books, journal publications and conference presentations. She has her name on 14 patents. Her community work includes volunteering (since 1997) in Utah’s schools, taking hands on science activities to schools, MESA clubs, Girl and Boy Scouts. T he purpose of MESA or Mathematics, Engineer- ing, Science Achievement is to increase the number of underserved ethnic minority and all female middle, junior, and high school students who pursue course work, advanced study and possible careers in mathematics, engineering and science areas. A MESA Advisor since 2010, he has an outstanding commitment to MESA and its goals. As a math teacher he is particularly aware of the needs of ethnic minority students and women in the math and science fields. His primary assignment is teaching Secondary Math 1 and a Newcomer Math class for newly arrived non-English speakers. S teven Lord is an engineering project manager with experience completing capital facilities and impact fee facilities plans, transportation master plans including trails and transit, traffic impact studies, UDOT access permit applica- tions, travel demand modeling, municipal design, geographic information systems (GIS), and other transportation-related projects. He has experience with Environ- mental Impact Statement (EIS) and Environmental Assessment (EA) requirements including work on the West Davis Corridor EIS and Central Utah Water Conservancy District (CUWCD) URS Pipeline Provo Reach 2 EA. He is proficient with the ESRI Arcview suite of GIS products, Synchro, SimTraffic, AutoCAD, and Cube. He also has expe- rience with Vissim and QRSII. DR.
