23 W E FEEL THE Utah Engineers Council (UEC) is one of the best deals for your membershipmon- ey. Remember, all your members are part of theUEC. That puts it at a very low cost per member for your budget. We would like to highlight just a few of the benefits of being amember of the UEC. The UEC is a great way to play your part in the overall scheme of promoting engineers and the engineering profession in Utah. • Celebrate Utah. Showcase and reward the best of Utah in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. We celebrate Utah through our annual awards ban- quet and award winning UEC Journal. This is all part of promoting E-week fes- tivities. Currently we have 16 member and affiliate member societies. • Provide scholarships for the three currently ABET accredited research Universities in Utah for engineering stu- dents. These are awarded at our annual banquet. This is part of the Scholarship committee. The UEC also works with Weber State University for the privately funded, Gerald H. Piele scholarship going to an Electrical Engineering student preferably with Native American heritage. The UEC allows each member society to use the banquet to provide a venue for presenting their special scholarship awards. • Award winning journal provides an outlet and showcases ideas and strate- gies of Utah Engineers. These articles are written and published by and for our member societies. Each member of each society receives a copy of the UEC Journal to keep and/or share. This is part of the Publishing Commit- tee. • Annual banquet: honors the best of the best in the engineering profession and those that teach them with distin- guished Keynote speakers at locations throughout the Salt Lake Valley. o The UEC awards include: • Engineer of the Year; • Engineering Educator of the Year; and • New Faces in Engineering for those whose future is bright and show lots of potential by their peers. Each member society gets to nominate and showcase a worthy member. One is selected for the top of three prestigious engineering awards. Award winners and nominees get beautiful commemorative plaques to show off and hang on their wall with pride, knowing that they were selected as the best by their society and peers. The UEC also works with the state in recog- nizing the MESA (Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement) teacher of the year award for teachers.
