T he Institute of Electrical and Electron- ics Engineers, Incorporated (IEEE) is a non-profit corporation, incor- porated in the state of New York on March 16, 1896. The purpose of the IEEE is to engage exclusively in scientific and educational activities directed toward the advancement of the theory and practice of electrical, electronics, communications and computer engineering, as well as computer science, the allied branches of engineering and the related arts and sciences, which benefit the engineering profession. It is the world's largest professional association for the advancement of technology. The IEEE Member and Geographic Activities Board approved the establishment and boundaries of the IEEE Utah Section on March 9, 1917. The Utah Section conducts activities which assist members to enhance their professional careers and communities. These activities include but are not limited to an awards/recognition ceremony, Sci- ence, Technology, Engineering, and Math- ematics (STEM) events, networking/social events, professional activities, and technical workshops. The Section has active societ- ies which include Computer Society (CS), Power & Energy (PES), Signal Processing & Communication (SP/COM), and Solid-State Circuits (SSCS). Along with the societies, the Section has established three affinity groups: Professional Activities Committees for Engineers (PACE), Young Professionals (YP), and Women in Engineering (WIE). The Section promotes unity and outreach through these various entities embedded within the Section to promote and support continued efforts for the advancement of research/engineering and the ability to share knowledge amongst each other in the rapidly changing world of technology.
