10 ENGINEER OF THE YEAR Justin Don Naser The Utah Engineers Council is happy to announce their se- lection of Justin Don Naser as the 2017 Engineer of the Year for the State of Utah. The Structural Engineers Association of Utah nominated Mr Naser, Principal at ARW Engineers, for Utah’s Engineer of the Year. Currently serving as Chair of the Utah Uniform Building Codes Commission, Mr. Naser regularly meets with the state legislature to encourage adoption of appropriate building codes for the State of Utah. As a Master’s of Science Degree recipient from Utah State University, Mr. Naser continues to volunteer at the university and has taught steel building design courses to USU senior and graduate level students. Many of his nota- ble projects are found on the campuses of Utah State and Weber State Universities including the USU Engineering Building, Wayne Estes Center and WSU Tracy Hall Science Center. He has also enjoyed working on many religious structures throughout the country including the LDS Church History Library and Brigham City Temple. ENGINEERING EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR Paul J. Barr The Utah Engineers Council is happy to announce their selection of Paul Barr as the 2017 Engineering Educator of the Year for the State of Utah. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has nominated Dr. Paul Barr, a professor at Utah State, as their nominee for Utah’s Engineering Educator of the Year. Dr. Barr has been associated with the Utah Transportation Center since the beginning and is currently serving as the director of the center. The Center has focused on partnering with the Utah Department of Transportation to solve difficult state problems. In all, the Utah Transportation Center has had $13.9M in funding that has resulted in 66 projects. Most significantly, it has resulted in over 50 graduate degrees including Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering as well as Range and Wildlife Management.
