Piele Scholarship Sponsor: Gerald H. Piele Family Sharon is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in electrical engi- neering at Weber State University. Her passion for finding solutions to real world problems is what led her to study electrical engineering. Following graduation she hopes to continue on in a graduate program emphasizing in energy systems. When asked what attracted her to study engineer- ing, she responds “I want to make a difference solving one world problem at a time…Idealistic? Maybe, but not im- possible! After all, engineering is all about making things possible.” Her scholarship was sponsored by the family of Gerald H. Piele who has partnered with the Utah Engineers Council for several years in promoting engineering educa- tion by assisting students reach their academic goals. Student Name: LANDON FOUST Objective: BSEE Institution: Weber State University Name of Scholarship: Utah Engineers Council Scholarship Sponsor: Northrop Grumman Landon is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in electrical engi- neering at Weber State University. He graduated summa cum laude from Layton High School and is a member of the National Honor Society. Since entering Weber State Univer- sity, he has received the High Honors Award for academic achievement in 2012, 2015 and 2016. He takes time out of his busy schedule to help tutor kids in math and physics. Landon loves to learn about energy and explosives and has pursued this passion by analyzing risk at an explosives engineering company. He says, “I think it is cool to think of new ways to save on my power and gas bill… I would like to be involved in research to investigate energy usage and different modes of alternative energy methods… a meth- odology that can be used worldwide for everyone to have a better lifestyle.”
