He graduated high school with an Associate of Science from USU. His current emphasis is Pre-Medicine/Tissue Engineering and is on the Dean’s list. He has published on such topics as vascular complications in renal transplantation and renal allograft histopathology. Christian has received many awards including the David G. Sant Scholar award, the Dennis M. Miller Scholar Engineer- ing A-Pin and the Thomas M. Farley Chemistry Award. He has also received his Eagle Scout award. He has been a Col- lege of Engineering Ambassador, a researcher/technician for the Institute of Antiviral Research and a charter member of the American Medical Student Association. Christian has worked as a teaching assistant, a Preparation and Recovery technician; he has volunteered in the Emergency Depart- ment of a local hospital, and as a freshman assistant Lacrosse coach. He is also fluent in American Sign Language/Indian Sign Language. Student Name: J. JACKSON MATSEN Objective: Mech/Aero Eng Institution: Utah State University Name of Scholarship: Utah Engineers Council Scholarship Sponsor: Northrop Grumman Jackson is pursuing a degree in Mech/Aero Eng at Utah State University. He worked as an Engineering Ambassa- dor providing private and group tours of facilities. He was recognized as the USU Mechanical and Aerospace Engi- neering Pre-Professional Student of the Year 2015-2016 and has been on the College of Engineering Dean’s List for the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters. Jackson has worked as a Research Assistant in the USU Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department and has procured grant research funding through USU’s Engineering Undergraduate Re- search (EURP) for his own research at the Mechanical in Extreme Temperatures Lab. Volunteering with Engineers Without Borders, he traveled to Peru where he worked with a team to help design, develop and implement eleven por- table alpaca shelters. Student Name: SETH THOMPSON Objective: BSCE Institution: Utah State University Name of Scholarship: Utah Engineers Council Scholarship Sponsor: STEM Action Center Seth is pursuing a BSCE at Utah State University. He has been on the Engineering Dean’s List and is the recipient of the USU A-Pin. Seth maintained a 4.0 Engineering GPA for 2 consecutive semesters while taking more than 15 credit hours. Among his honors he has been recognized as the USU Presidential Scholar. He is also the recipient of the National Science Foundation–Scholarship in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. In addition to a full-time job, he tutors thermodynamics on the side. He also maintains written and verbal fluency in Spanish from his volunteer service in Mexico for two years.
