ENGINEERING EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR NOMINEE Trent Hunt The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) nominated Trent Hunt, a BYU Adjunct Professor for Utah Engineering Educator of the Year. Trent also works as an applications engineer at Mechanical Products Intermountain. His decades-long re- cord of community service includes Red Cross, high school coaching, and wrestling official. His recent professional interests have been in creating competitive advantage using ASHRAE’s building energy quotient program and making new and existing building more efficient, healthy, and comfortable. Trent is currently serving as the assistant regional chair for ASHRAE Region IX and has been elected to the ASHRAE Board of Directors serving as the Director and Regional Chair for ASHRAE Region IX for 3 years start- ing July 1, 2017. ENGINEERING EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR NOMINEE Douglas Hunsaker The Utah Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has nominated Dr. Douglas Hunsaker, an Assistant Professor at USU’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, as Utah’s Engineering Educator of the Year. Dr. Hunsaker has done aerodynamic, design, or consulting work for Sandia National Labs, AeroVironment, Flying Sensors, the MAGICC Lab, Vayu, and other corporations. He mentors students and is very active in the AIAA Design, Build, Fly competition. His interests include propulsion theory of flapping airfoils and turbulence models. ENGINEERING EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR NOMINEE Forrest Brown The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has nominated Forrest Brown, a Park University Teacher, for Utah’s Engineering Educator of the Year. Forrest teaches math and systems engineering and provides significant support to the Hill AFB technical work force continuing education. He is active in Utah State Delegates, Boy Scouts, IEEE, and provides student tours of Hill AFB. In his 32 years as an electrical engineer, he has been an engineering su- pervisor, Senior Staff Engineer, Senior Test Engineer, Tech- nology Adoption Consultant, Test Engineer, and Product Quality Assurance Engineer. ENGINEERING EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR NOMINEE Nominee: Fernando Fonseca The Structural Engineers Association of Utah (SEAU) has nominated Dr. Fernando Fonseca, an Associate Professor at BYU in Civil Engineering, as Utah’s Engineering Educator of the Year. Dr. Fonseca is a prolific writer, reviewer, and presenter. He is also author of the book, Nail, Staple, and Wood Screw Fastener Connections. Fernando has been instrumental in creating national structural engineering exams. His research includes areas such as “Axial Capac- ity and Seismic Performance Factors for the Endura Wall System”, “Replacement of Portland Cement in Masonry Construction”, and “Concrete Bridge Deck Rehabilitation and Replacement Strategies”.
