12 Congratulations UEC 2018 Award Winners! Brian Warner, ACEC, UEC Awards Chair presents Brent White with Engineer of the Year Award ENGINEER OF THE YEAR Brent White ARW Engineers, SEAU The Structural Engineering Association of Utah nominated Brent White of ARW Engineers as Utah Engineer of the Year for the year 2018. Brent has been employed at ARW Engineers since 1983 and has been a Principal since 1990. He became President in 2002. He has been an adjunct professor at Utah State University and currently serves as a member of the USU Department of Civil Engineering Advisory Board. He has served as the Structural Adviso- ry Committee Chair to the Utah Uniform Building Code Commission for many years. Brent speaks extensively on risk management. His community service also includes Plain City Council, Plain City Planning Commission, church lead- er, and post-earthquake assessment volunteer here and in Haiti and Japan. EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR Dr. Masood Parvania University of Utah Professor, IEEE The Utah section of the Institute of Electrical and Electron- ics Engineers nominated Dr. Masood Parvania, an assistant professor at the University of Utah as their Engineering Educator of the Year. Dr. Parvania supervises and trains six PhD students and three Master students. He has addressed problems at Rocky Mountain Power (RMP) due to harmon- ics generated by agricultural irrigations systems. He has performed groundbreaking work in sustainability studying integration of renewable energy and storage devices. He has also modernized power distribution on campus. Exam- ple Research Projects: Continuous Flexible Scheduling/Pric- ing of Wholesale Electricity; Western Plugin Electric Vehicle Community Partnership; Automated Monitoring/Control of Electric Vehicle Charging; Smart Water Data Acquisition and Analytics; Modeling/Performance of Compressed Air Energy Storage; Hierarchical Resiliency Control for Smart Cities; Impacts Analysis of Irrigation Systems on Power Distribution.
