27 AMBER BARRON Northrop Grumman Scholarship University of Utah Materials Science and Engineering Amber is the recipient of numerous awards related to her STEM studies and projects including the Swiss National Center for Competence in Research. She completed the University of Utah Honors Ecology and Legacy Minor. Am- ber is a co-founder and development engineer in a start- up company, SHERO, creating biodegradable feminine hygiene pads for women worldwide. She has used her own experiences to distribute an engineering fair curriculum for 5-12 grade students nation-wide, enabling them to ad- dress real-world problems through the engineering design process. She is very active in various service organizations including SWE and Girl Scouts. Chris Phillips, representing Northrop Grumman, presents scholarship to Amber Barron VICTORIA KRULL Mechanical Engineering Southern Utah University STEM Action Center Scholarship From Victoria’s scholarship application: “…while the math problems can be hard, often it’s the communication, leadership and teamwork problems that are harder to solve.” Victoria Krull’s experiences include volunteering with Engineers Without Borders and the SUU greenhouse and Biology Department. She is on the SUU honors list and Dean’s list. She has worked as a Smith’s bagger, a docent in the SUU Natural History Museum Tour Guide, and a SUU housing resident assistant. Victoria chose engineering as a major because of the wide variety of things she could do with an engineering degree, from conservation to aero- space. WILLIAM JOHNSTON Industrial Engineering Southern Utah University Midgley-Huber Scholarship William is a polite, interested and engaged student who has always been good at problem-solving. William has helped with Engineers Without Borders projects. His jobs to date include intern with Ensign Engineering and Land Survey, a leader on a Chipolte Mexican Grill team, DCH Honda sales, door-to-door canvasser for Power Aid Solar, a technician for Anderson and Sons Shelling, and a general laborer. He helped create the SUU engineering department lab.
