Merrill First Past Chair: Charlie Vono (AIAA) Second Past Chair: Brian Warner (ACEC) Our mission statement for the Journal: The UEC advances the art and science of engineering for the general welfare of the people of Utah by promoting cooperation among and beyond our 16 member societies. Our mission is an exact fit to this year’s Engineers Week theme of “inspiring wonder”. We hold an annual banquet where we present scholarships to Utah undergraduates pursuing engineer- ing degrees. Also at the banquet we present as top Utah examples our best engineers, new engineers, and engineering educators by nominating them for awards. All year we outreach to younger children to show them the possibilities of a career in engineering. We have other great projects as well. Come join us. 6 Governor’s Declaration 8 Chairman’s Message 10 Inspiring Wonder Engineers Week 2018 11 Featured Speaker Of The Engineers Week 2018 Banquet 12 Congratulations UEC 2018 Award Winners 14 Congratulations UEC 2018 Award Nominees 24 Congratulations UEC 2018 Scholarship Winners 30 2018 UEC Awards Banquet 32 2018 UEC Awards Banquet Photos 34 2017 Salt Lake City Comic Con STEM Booth 37 Staying Fit in the Office 38 The Benefits and Components of Regional Transportation Corridor Plans 40 The Art of Science 44 Crossing Borders: ‘Engineers Without Borders’ Collaborate to Bring More Water to Navajo Mountain 46 Life at 12,800 Feet 47 Building the Future 50 Being Real 52 INCOSE Wasatch Chapter to Host the Western States Regional Conference 56 Calculating the Value of Arterial Safety Improvements Before and After Study Shows Safety Improvements Reduced Crashes by 40 Percent 61 Particulates: The Good and the Bad 63 The Status of Women on Utah State Boards & Commissions 66 Women, Confidence, and Leadership: What Do Utah Women Leaders Think? 69 The Re-monumentation of the Tri-State Monument for Arizona, Nevada, and Utah 73 USTAR: Building Utah’s Innovation Ecosystem 75 Pages From UEC History 82 Utah Engineers Council Roster 83 Utah Engineers Council Member Societies
